KAPLAN – When Felecian Primeaux of Kaplan was arrested last week and charged with 12 counts of arson, this was not his first run in with the law.

Last week the Kaplan police arrested Primeaux, 55, after he was allegedly identified on a surveillance video setting fire to a residence. He also allegedly confessed to the arson crimes.

Primeaux is awaiting trial on a totally separate crime that he was arrested for a year ago.

According to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office, Primeaux was arrested Feb. 16, 2011, by the Sheriff’s Office and charged with one count of molestation of a juvenile.

His bond was set at $25,000 and he eventually bonded out. Primeaux was also charged with obscenity and a $500 bond was set at the time he was being charged with molestation of a juvenile.

According to the Vermilion Parish Clerk of Court office, no trial date has been set on those two charges.

The Sheriff’s Office did not provide the age of the juvenile who was allegedly molested by Primeaux.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office, Kaplan Police Department and the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office have over the past nine months been operating a special task force to investigate a series of suspicious fires dating back to 2007.

The 12 counts of simple arson include fires set at Kaplan Rice Mill, corner of 8th and Foote, 900 block of Foote (two counts), 10th and Deshotel (two counts), 9th and Wilson, 1101 Church, 200 block of East 8th (two counts) and the fire behind the Christians Who Care building on Cushing.

He is currently in the Vermilion Parish Correctional Facility. Bond was set at $300,000.
