Boy Scout Troop 1 from Franklin braved the cold weather last weekend and joined 13 other Boy Scout troops and Venture crews at Mountain Bayou Lake in St. Landry. for the Klondike Derby event. The boys raced their own dog sleds to different challenge stations as part of “life in the Klondike.” Competitions ranged from first aid to orienteering to fire starting to team building. The boys took third place in fire starting and second in Scout Spirit in Patrol Design. They capped off the event with each troop racing their sleds around a set course. Upcoming events for March include the Attakapas Spring Camporee; the Scouts will be working as a service troop for the Cub Scouts for their resident camp and there is an upcoming Court of Honor set for March 18 at Franklin United Methodist Church at 5 p.m. where guests and those interested in joining scouting are encouraged to help honor the boys and their accomplishments.
