It’s carnival time and events are varied around western St. Mary Parish this year.

Weather is playing a part in some differences from normal routine as well.

Baldwin’s Mardi Gras Association has moved its annual parade to Sunday at 1 p.m. due to the threat of extreme weather Saturday, the parade’s normal venue. Lineup for participants is at noon.

Baldwin is not allowing alcoholic beverages on the parade route.

The Franklin All-Krewes Mardi Gras Parade begins at 1 p.m., according to the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce website. The Banner did not receive notice of the parade time from organizers.

Franklin Police remind parade watchers that open alcohol container laws are lifted only along the parade route from one hour before the start and one hour after the parade ends. No glass containers are allowed.
