The Tribal Council is composed of 10 districts throughout Terrebonne, Lafourche, Jefferson, St. Mary, St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes and are based on population.
Interested applicants must qualify between March 1 and March 30.
To qualify, candidates must:
—Be a registered tribal voter.
—Be at least 25-years-old.
—Be a high school graduate or have the equivalent of a high school diploma.
—Reside in the voting district in which the person seeks office for two or more consecutive years immediately preceding the election.
—Be free of any felony conviction.
—Not hold a tribal office unless the person is seeking election or reappointment to that office.
Any interested person seeking candidacy must complete an Eligibility of Office qualifying form, available at the UHN Main Office, 20986 Hwy. 1, Golden Meadow, LA 70357.
The form and supporting documents must be received at this address by 4 p.m. March 30. Qualifying forms cannot be faxed or incomplete. Late applications will not be considered.
Upon successful qualification of any two or more candidates for any seat, elections will be held within the affected districts Saturday, June 2.
Additional details such as voter registration deadlines, instructions and deadlines for absentee voting and polling place notice will be available after the March 30 deadline for qualification.
