Things are happening quickly for young Isaac White of Patterson.

Inside of a year, White began attending the John Robert Powers Academy, a performing arts school in Metairie; won four trophies and two honorable mentions from the International Presentation of Performers in Los Angeles; got a local agent and offers from 50+ national agents; and now is performing in a stage play with nationally known talent.

“The Definition of Bounce Between Ups and Downs in New Orleans” is coming to the stage in early March and White is portraying 10th Ward Buck, the main character, as a 14-year-old.

The Patterson High School freshman is polite and humble as his father, Grey White, explains the pair travel to New Orleans every weekend for classes at the academy and then to play practice with Lucky Johnson — who appeared as Tarik in “Contraband” — and 10th Ward Buck.

As Isaac explains, 10th Ward Buck’s book, titled the same as the play, is about a 14-year-old who is growing up in the St. Thomas Projects in New Orleans. He’s subject to all of the influences that could make a youngster fall — peer pressure, drugs, murders and prostitution — yet he rises above the fray to graduate and become an entrepreneur.

Isaac was cast for the play by circumstance.

He and his father were leaving a radio station interview after the Los Angeles trip and Johnson was entering. They got to talking and the rest, as they say, is history.

“By God’s instruction, it just happened that we met up,” dad Grey White said.

Isaac both sings and acts in the production.

The play will be held Friday, March 9 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 10 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at L.B. Landry Auditorium, 1200 L.B. Landry Ave. in New Orleans.
