Krisitie Blanton Marceaux of Kaplan received a 10-year hard labor sentence but will actually serve only five years in prison after accepting a plea from the state on two separate charges of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Two years ago, Marceaux, who is from Kaplan, was one of six parish residents arrested by the Louisiana State Police Region II Criminal Investigation Division on various child sexual abuse related offenses.

Marceaux, 36, was being accused of abusing her daughter.

She was being charged with aggravated rape and entered a plea of not guilty in 2010. When the case went to trial last week, Marceaux changed her plea to no contest. Had she been convicted of aggravated rape, she could have received life in prison.

A plea agreement was reached between the state and Marceaux before the trial.

She pleaded no contest on both charges and was sentenced to 10 years hard labor, with five years suspended, two without benefit or probation or parole.

Marceaux will serve her sentence on both charges at the same time.

When she gets out of prison, she can not have contact with her daughter and have to register as a sex offender for 15 years. She also has to take random drug tests.
