Morgan City Police arrested a man early this morning on multiple charges after a short car chase and a brief manhunt.

Eric C. Harvey, 28, of Adams Street in Morgan City was charged with possession of stolen property worth more than $15,000, battery of a police officer, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license and a stop sign violation.

Harvey attracted police attention at Sixth and Onstead streets when he sped through a stop sign in a Chevrolet Avalanche which was later discovered to have been stolen, Chief Marc Folse said. When a patrolling officer turned on his blue lights and gave chase, Harvey parked in the 700 block of Hilda Street, got out and attempted to run.

The officer caught Harvey, who then began struggling to get away and hit the officer numerous times, Folse said. Harvey got away eventually, jumped a fence and disappeared, but police backup arrived and set up a perimeter around the area. Harvey was located after a search of the area and taken into custody.

Harvey was also discovered to have two outstanding warrants. He remained in custody this morning with no bond set.

Also in Morgan City, parish Drug Task Force agents arrested Jarvis D. Agents executed a search warrant at Granger’s residence. During a search of the residence, agents located cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. After investigation, Granger was placed under arrest and booked into the parish jail with no bond set.

Parish deputies arrested Justin Paul Mitchell Bowyer, 19, of First Street in Berwick at 2:03 p.m. Wednesday on two warrants for failure to appear for a drug court status conference.
