The Berwick High School Lady Panthers dropped their first district game of the season on Wednesday in Maurice, a 5-2 defeat to North Vermilion.

The game, which was rescheduled for Wednesday after it was rained out Tuesday, featured four Berwick errors, while North Vermilion committed three.

North Vermilion scored first in the bottom of the second with two runs and added three more in the fifth for a 5-0 lead.

Berwick scored its two runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Hayley Girard led the Lady Panthers with a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI.

Other BHS players collecting hits included Abigail Ohlin, 2-for-4 with a run scored; Megan Fabre and Megan Fegenbush, each 1-for-3; and Elizabeth Hover, 1-for-4 with a run scored.

On the mound, Fegenbush (7-6) tossed a complete game and surrendered all five runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout.

The Lady Panthers (8-8, 2-1) will return to action today when they travel to Bayou Vista to face Central Catholic in a non-district contest at the Bayou Vista Community Center. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
