Pickup leaves road, overturns in Cane River, one killed, driver charged

NATCHITOCHES – State Police have charged a man with vehicular homicide after he overturned his pickup in Cane River, killing one of his passengers.

Police said Cody L. Crittenden, 26, drove off Fish Hatcher Road on Sunday evening, traveled down an embankment and overturned in the river.

Eddie Hayes, 35, of Robeline died at the scene. Another passenger, Brandon McDonald, 30, of Mooringsport was injured.

Neither the driver nor the passengers were wearing seat belts when the accident occurred, troopers said.

Crittenden’s injuries were minor, according to officers.
