Charles Brown, at right, was presented an award by Franklin Fire Chief Chuck Bourgeois Tuesday at the Franklin City Council meeting. On Feb. 29 Brown “responded to a frantic call from a neighbor,” Bourgeois said, regarding an oven fire on Fifth Street. The oven was “shooting flames, filling the home with smoke and threatening to destroy all of the family’s personal possessions,” the chief said. Brown grabbed a fire extinguisher and went to the neighbor’s aid, quickly knocking the fire down until the fire department arrived two minutes later. Bourgeois said Brown’s action likely saved significant property damage to the residence and contents.
