In the opener, the Franklin Hornets came up on the short end of a 6-5 loss in eight innings to host Northside before Franklin bounced back with a 10-9 win over Mansfield in the nightcap.

The Northside Vikings pulled out a 6-5 win over Franklin in eight innings in the Northside Tournament on Saturday.
Franklin’s Lane Howard suffered the loss as the closer, working one frame, giving up one run with one walk. Franklin’s Bernard Mitchell started on the hill, hurling seven innings while allowing five runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
Top hitters for the Hornets were: Lane Howard, 3 for 4, 2 doubles, RBI; Angelo Eave, 1 for 3, solo homer; Demonte Mickles, 1 for 3, RBI, run; B. J. Mitchell, hit, RBI; Roderick Brown, hit, run.
Franklin 10, Mansfield 9
Paced by the efforts of Allen Randle and Demonte Mickles, the Franklin Hornets claimed a 10-9 victory over Mansfield in Saturday’s nightcap.
Randle, the Pete Rose “Charlie Hustle” recipient, was the winning pitcher after working one inning, giving up two runs on no hits with one strikeout and no walks.
Mickles was named the Impact Player of the Game while also joining the Hornets’ top hitters with a 2 for 3 outing with two runs and one RBI.

Franklin, which had a three-game winning streak snapped by the extra-inning loss to Northside, will play host to the Abbeville Wildcats tonight at 6 p.m. in the opening round of District 9-3A action.
