From Staff Reports

The Morgan City Lady Tigers pushed across a winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning against Terrebonne High School to take a 2-1 non-district victory.

The Lady Tigers broke the 1-1 tie when Marilynn Bailey, who got on after she was hit by a pitch, scored on a Nikki Pennison hit to center field.

“We made good contact with the ball all through the game,” MCHS coach Kelly Jo Aucoin said. “We just need to get all runs in and don’t leave them on the base path in scoring position.”

The win was even more significant because Morgan City had to adjust to moving several players around due to injuries.

“We played a good defense today,” Aucoin said. “The team is pulling together to make it work. I am very pleased to see that the players are adjusting well to the changes at this point.”

Shannon Theriot led the Lady Tigers at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance with a triple and a run.

“She has been very consistent with her hitting,” Aucoin said of Theriot.

Other hitters for MCHS included Pennison, Taylor Prince, Katelyn Alvarez and Aliyah Green, all 1-for-3. Pennison had an RBI and Green had a double.

On the mound, Prince surrendered six hits and struck out three.

“Taylor Prince pitched a good game,” Aucoin said. “She was consistent with her pitches and the defense was behind her.”

The Lady Tigers will return to District 8-4A action today at 4 p.m. when they travel to Napoleonville to face Assumption High School.
