Former Red Sox pitcher

NEW ORLEANS – Services for former Major League baseball player and the winningest left-handed pitcher in Boston Red Sox history Mel Parnell, Sr. will be Saturday. He died March 20 at age 89.

His best season record was 25-7 in 1949. After retirement he coached minor league baseball and was a broadcaster with the Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and New Orleans Pelicans.

Survivors include his wife Velma and four children.

Arrangements are by LakeLawn, Metairie.

Banker-Realtor

ALEXANDRIA – Services for long-time banker and realtor Charlie Hickman will be Saturday. He died March 21 at age 78.

He was a former loan officer with Rapides Bank & Trust and owner of Hickman-Graham Real Estate. He was an early supporter of the Toledo Bend Reservoir project and after retirement became a fishing guide there.

Survivors include his wife Nelda, a son and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Hixson Bros.

Collection exec

NEW ORLEANS – Services for credit industry executive Richard Blanke will be Saturday. He died March 18 at age 68.

He was president and CEO of Crescent City Credit Recovery and legislative chairman of the Louisiana Collectors Assn. He was a former member of the Lake Ponchatrain Causeway Commission.

Survivors include his wife Cheryl, a daughter and three step-children.

Arrangements are by LakeLawn, Metairie.
