Pontiff and Champagne emerged victorious after battling VCHS’ Mia LeBeauf in an old fashioned pitcher’s duel.
“We played very good defense and both of our pitchers pitched very well,” HMS Head Coach Theresa Lombardo said. “We played very good defense as we only had one error. We didn’t hit the ball as well as I would have liked, but I’ll take the win.”
Pontiff posted the mound victory, tossing four scoreless innings, allowing only three hits with no free passes. Pontiff improved to a flawless 10-0 on the season.
Champagne (3-1) worked the final three frames, not yielding a run while giving up only one hit with two strikeouts and no walks.
LeBeauf suffered the mound loss after working seven complete innings, giving up one run on four hits with five strikeouts.
Hanson (13-2) manufactured its only run in the top half of the first inning when Brittany Broussard tagged home plate on an RBI-single by Paige Diamond.
Broussard lined a single to reach first before advancing on Kim Sonnier’s base knock. Mallory Chaisson’s field’s choice enabled both runners to move up with Diamond delivering Broussard with the game-winner as the Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead.
Leading hitters for the Hanson Lady Tigers were: Brittany Broussard, 1-for-4, run; Kim Sonnier, 1 for 3; Paige Diamond, 1 for 3, RBI and Macy Simoneaux, 1 for 3.
With the victory, the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers posted their second straight District 8-A victory, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Hanson (13-2, 2-0) will travel to face the Central Catholic Lady Eagles in District 8-A action.
