WESTLAKE – A car driven by a teenager trying to pass an 18-wheeler struck a motorcycle head-on, killing the bike's driver.

State Police said the 18-wheeler had stopped on La. 379 west of here at a railroad crossing. When the rig began to move away from the track, two vehicles passed it.

The first made it, the second, driven by a 16-year-old, didn't, hitting the oncoming motorcycle criven by James Loniello, 57.

Loniello, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

The teen was initially charged with improper passing.
