St. Mary arrests an alleged rapist

A St. Mary deputy on Monday arrested an Amelia man wanted for rape in Assumption Parish.

Charles Wilkerson Jr., 53, of Martin Lane, was arrested at 1:02 a.m. on a warrant for aggravated rape after the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office notified St. Mary Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Mark Hebert said. Wilkerson was located at his home, placed under arrest and booked into the parish jail with no bond at this time.

Assumption officials did not respond to a request for more information by press time.

Elsewhere, Louis Williams Jr., 39, of Lloyd Lane, Morgan City, was arrested Monday at 3:44 p.m. for domestic abuse battery, simple battery, resisting an officer by flight and general speed law. A deputy was called to Lloyd Lane in reference to a domestic disturbance. While the deputy was en route to the residence, he was advised that suspect was leaving the scene in his vehicle.

The deputy observed the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Williams refused to stop and led the deputy on a vehicle pursuit, finally coming to a stop at Sundown Court in Gibson. Williams was taken into custody and brought back to the scene for investigation, Hebert said.

During the investigation, the complainant said she and Williams were arguing over money when he began pushing her and taking money from her purse. When Williams left the residence, he pushed the victim’s sister also. After investigation, suspect was booked into the parish jail with no bond at this time.

In Patterson, Marvin L. Verret, 68, of Patterson, was arrested Monday and charged with illegal possession of stolen things. A filed complaint claimed that Verret had taken these items, and officers went to Verret's residence and found them. Verret is being held on $15,000 bond.

Lionel Johnson, 25, of Morgan City, was arrested after his failure to yield caused an accident and it was discovered that he had no driver’s license and no insurance.
