The Morgan City and Berwick boys’ bowling teams qualified for bi-regional play next week in Bossier City, while two bowlers from the Berwick girls’ squad also will move on to the next round.
Morgan City made the bi-regional round after knocking off Central Catholic, 25-2, in second round action Thursday. Berwick also advanced after defeating South Terrebonne, 16-11, in the second round.
Individually, Berwick’s Elle Arcemont and Kourtney Kennedy finished in the top five in single’s play and therefore qualified for bi-regionals in Bossier City.
In boys’ action, Morgan City will advance to bi-regional play as the top seed out of the Morgan City/Houma/Terrebonne regional, while Terrebonne will advance as the second seed out of the regional and Berwick and Vandebilt move on as the third and fourth seeds, respectively, from the regional.
In Morgan City’s victory, the squad shattered the regional single match record with a combined 1,323. The squad easily broke the previous record of 1,280 with individual scores of 214, 191, 190, 266, 248 and 214 contributed by team members.
Ryan Veillion bowled a 687 series for Morgan City with individual scores of 209, 266 and 212. Taylor Brocato (248), Chandler Delaune (214), Austin Courtney (214) and Lang Bui (206) all contributed to the Tigers’ victory.
For CCHS, Jacob Pennison bowled a 200, while Josh Abney and Kyle Autin recorded scores of 188 and 172, respectively.
In Berwick’s victory, the match went down to the end as Berwick lost the first game, 7-1, before coming back to win the second game, 7-1 and the third game, 5-3.
Leading the Berwick squad were Paul Reed with a 595 series, including games of 190, 212 and 193, while Devin Quick bowled a 214.
In other second round action, No. 6 seed Vandebilt Catholic defeated Ellender, 17-10, while No. 2 seed Terrebonne defeated No. 7 seed H.L. Bourgeois, 18-9.
In the girls’ action, Ellender defeated Berwick, 17½-9½ in the semifinals Tuesday, while South Terrebonne also defeated Vandebilt, 22-5, in the other semifinals.
Kennedy recorded scores of 157, 161 and 125 in the defeat, while her teammate, Elle Arcemont added scores of 133, 152 and 159.
In the elimination match to determine the third team that would advance to bi-regionals, Vandebilt defeated Berwick, 17-10.
Ellender’s girls finished as the top seed in the Morgan City/Houma/Terrebonne regional, while South Terrebonne and Vandebilt finished second and third, respectively, and both will advance.
In other girls’ individual action, CCHS’ Jada Pennison and Morgan City’s Jennifer Vu both participated in singles action at regionals after their teams were eliminated but failed to qualify in the top five to move on to bi-regional action.
