Employees of Jesse Fontenot noticed that the truck was leaking fuel oil from a small hole, MCFD Chief Morris Price said. Price said he suspects the truck may have struck something as it made a sharp turn on its way to making its delivery.
“Their workers did a fantastic job of avoiding a lot more cleanup. If that would have gotten into the storm drains, we’d be in a world of trouble,” Price said.
The MCFD arrived at the scene shortly after 9 p.m., and the last truck left after 2 a.m.
The clean-up came after fire and police officials responded to leaking trucks and slicked streets Monday morning.
Blocks of Brashear Avenue and Greenwood Street between Front and First streets remained blocked this morning after Martin Transport trucks were seen leaking fuel and stopped Monday.
