Work recently began on the upcoming 8,000 square-foot Skatepark in Bayou Vista. The skate park will be located next to Central Park on Southeast Boulevard. Along with the new skate park, the plans include family picnic areas, barbecue pits, new benches, restrooms, additional parking and a new playground at Central Park double the size of the existing playground. The total project will cost close to $1 million. The majority of the funding is local, along with small federal and state grants. Aegis Construction of LaPlace is handling construction, which is expected to be completed in October.
