A HOST OF 4-H members, their parents and 4-H agents from St. Mary Parish attended the 4-H Area Cookery Contest at Lakeside Mall in Houma on April 3. St. Mary Parish had 13 4-Hers qualify to compete in the contest. Local results are in the accompanying article.

The 2012 4-H Area Cookery Contest was held at Lakeside Mall in Houma on April 3.

Thirteen 4-H members from St. Mary Parish, along with their parents and 4-H agents, traveled to Houma to compete in this competition. To qualify for the area cookery 4-H members first had to place as a grand champion in their division at the St. Mary Parish cookery contest held in Franklin on Oct. 15, 2011.

St. Mary Parish results from the Area Cookery Contest include:

Seafood Division:

Crab — first place, Ashton Landry, Centerville High School.

Shrimp — blue ribbon, Jacob Rogers, Glencoe Charter School.

Fish and other — second, Elizabeth Hebert, St. Francis Academy.

Beef Division:

Quick and Easy — second, Kimberly Boudreaux, West St. Mary High School.

Egg Division:

Appetizer/Salad — blue ribbon, Mariah Durocher, B.E. Boudreaux Middle School.

Main Dish — blue ribbon, Scott Price, Berwick Elementary School.

Dessert — blue ribbon, Victoria LeBlanc, Boudreaux Middle.

Poultry Division:

Chicken — blue ribbon, Abdiel Macias, J.A. Hernandez Elementary School.

Processed Poultry — second, Brooklyn Soprano, Raintree Elementary.

Sugar Division:

Cookies — third, Chloe Morris, St. John Elementary School.

Cakes — blue ribbon, Cassie Walker, Glencoe.

Candy — blue ribbon, Rosemarie Colley, St. John.

Pies — second, Alexandra Fitch, St. John.
