Last Monday and Tuesday the St. Mary Soil and Water Conservation District and the local Natural Resource Conservation Service planted about 1,700 bald cypress, green ash, mulberry and live oak trees on Belle Isle Lake. Four 4-H leaders volunteered as part of their Global Youth Service Day. Other participants or groups who supported the project were the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Belle Isle LLC, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
