Man allegedly axed one, shot another; charged with attempted murder

An Iota man has been arrested and charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder following an investigation by the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, Clyde Michael Hebert III, age 52 of DeCannes Hwy. Iota was arrested shortly after 8:00 a.m. this morning at his home without incident. Hebert was then transported to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office where he was booked in the parish jail with bond set at $200,000 by District Judge Glenn Everett.

Melancon stated that following an investigation investigator learned that Hebert had a verbal altercation with two male subjects around 11:00 p.m. Sunday evening. Hebert allegedly threw a hatchet striking one of the victims in his back and then fired a shotgun with the second victim receiving injury from shotgun blast. Both subjects were transported to American Legion Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Louisiana State Police SWAT Team, U S Marshal’s Task Force and Iota Police Department.
