Republicans in St. Mary Parish will caucus Saturday morning in Morgan City.

Local party members will gather at 8:30 a.m. at the Hampton Inn to elect delegates to the state convention later this year. The local delegates will elect delegates from the state to the party’s national convention this summer in Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla. There, delegates will vote for the state’s preferred presidential candidate.

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who has dropped out the presidential race, was the biggest vote-getter in the state’s primary in March. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is the frontrunner for the nomination, with more delegates accrued through the primaries and caucuses held thus far than all of his competitors combined.

Local party leaders are also looking for volunteers to hand out petitions, sign in caucus participants and perform other duties. Those interested should call 384-2134.
