Local prep golfers participated in regional golf action last week, but none qualified for state competition.

In Division V, Central Catholic participated in the Region 2 tournament at Atchafalaya at Idlewild in Patterson on Wednesday, while in Division 3, golfers from Berwick and Patterson participated in the Region 2 golf tournament at Beaver Creek in Zachary on Thursday.

Division V

Central Catholic’s Chaz Galloway missed qualifying for the state golf tournament by a single stroke after he shot an 87 at regionals.

Galloway, who finished 15th, led five CCHS golfers who participated in regional competition.

Other Eagles included Anthony Hunter, who finished in 22nd place with a 95; C.J. Laiche, 26th, 97; Bennet Duffy, 30th, 100; and Miles Scarbrough, 36th, 108.

As a team, Central Catholic finished fifth with a score of 379.

St. Edmund’s Lucas West won the individual competition at the regional after shooting a 76.

Hanson’s Bret Senette was the lone St. Mary Parish qualifier as he finished ninth after carding an 83.

The state tournament will be held at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria.

Division III

Berwick’s Brad Lemoine carded an 88 for 12th place, while Patterson’s Bobby Abshire finished 19th with a 99.

Lemoine’s score of 88 was just four strokes behind the lowest medalist qualifying score.

The only St. Mary Parish qualifier for the state tournament was Franklin’s Brandon Burdett, who qualified as a medalist after turning in an 80, good enough for fourth place.

Parkview Baptist’s Brek Balentine won the individual competition at the regional with a 72, while Parkview Baptist won the team title with a score of 311.

The Division 3 state tournament will be played at Beaver Creek in Zachary on Wednesday and Thursday.
