Marion Perry was a retired educator of thirty-three years in St. Mary Parish. She taught as a veteran English teacher at Franklin Senior High School for a great portion of those years serving as head of the English department, ACT coordinator, and coordinator of the annual Black American History Month Celebration. Perry also served in a host of other school, church and community endeavors and organizations which include: Ambassador of the Daughters of the King of LHMBC (Light House Missionary Baptist Church), Principal of Christian Education, Chairperson of the Pastor’s Anniversary Financial Committee, member of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, a member of Super Seniors Ministry and a member of the local chapter of the NAACP.
In honor of Perry, the school began a tradition of selecting a faculty or staff member who exhibited outstanding leadership characteristics and genuine concern toward students and the school as a whole. Marion Perry was the first honoree of this prestigious award in 2007-2008. Other recipients include Sophie August, 2008-2009; Coach Albert Perry, 2009-2010; Annie Boyd, 2010-2011; Alice Francis, 2010 Hornet Hero; Krista Magers, 2011-2012 Hornet Hero; and Hannah Triggs, 2011-2012 Hornet Pride winner. Other teachers who have been selected as Hornet Leaders include Linda Miller and Lisa Hebert, 2010-2011. Each honoree receives a framed certificate, a special gift, and was acknowledged during the annual FSHS Black American History Celebratory Program where students, faculty, staff members, administrators, school board personnel and parents are present.
Krista Magers and Hannah Triggs are both veterans of Franklin Senior High School and have been in education for 20 plus years.
Magers has been the head of the Mathematics department and has taught math and geometry for many years. She has been instrumental in the promotion of online learning (math programs) which offer personalized student development, and she has also been a part of After School Tutoring and Enrichment Programs for years. She has written grants to improve learning at FSHS, and her experience has become respected in the community through Adult Learning Programs. Triggs has worked in the Special Services department for many years, and she has assisted Larry Henderson continuously with special needs students. Many have noted her efforts and commitment to serving the students. She has also worked as a substitute teacher for After School Tutoring and Enrichment during the Credit Recovery and Fifth Block Programs.
