CROWLEY - About 600 Crowley voters on Saturday approved a 15-year sales and use tax that will not only allow officials to expand upon improvements to the city’s infrastructure (roads, bridges, sidewalks, ditches, sewerage, etc.) but it will keep the city from having to lay off any city workers who’s job may have been threatened had the tax not passed.

The final tally was 591 (65.16%) “yes” to 316 (34.84%) “no.”

It is estimated that the one-half of one percent tax will bring in an estimated $1,334,888 the first year for city improvements.

“What can I say, I’d like to thank everyone who came out and supported it,” said a happy and relieved Crowley Mayor Greg Jones. “We intend to use this money wisely and effectively and I’d like to thank everyone who voted to help our city move forward.”
