Aggravated assaults lead to MC arrests

A pair of aggravated assault arrests were made in unrelated incidents over the weekend.

Wilbert Singleton III, 52, of Leona Street, Morgan City, was charged at 10:07 p.m. Saturday with aggravated assault and disturbing the peace intoxicated after he threatened another person with a box cutter during a drunken fight, Morgan City Police Chief Marc Folse said.

He remained incarcerated this morning in lieu of a $5,282 bond.

Thomas M. Kattuvila, 49, of Egle Street, Morgan City, was charged at 10:49 p.m. Friday with aggravated assault after his roommate called the police to report that Kattuvila had threatened the roommate with a butcher’s cleaver. The victim was able to use a chair to fend off Kattuvila before locking him out of the house, Folse said.

Kattuvila remained incarcerated this morning in lieu of a $5,000 bond.

The MCPD reported several additional arrests over the weekend. They include:

—Tyler J. Adams, 18, of Glenwood Street, Morgan City, arrested Saturday at 11:09 p.m. for disturbing the peace intoxicated. Incarcerated in lieu of $282 bond.

—Michael W. Smith, 46, of La. 182, Morgan City, arrested at 10:07 p.m. Saturday for appearing in public intoxicated, possession of cocaine and resisting an officer after a patrol officer witnessed a drug deal in the parking lot of his apartment complex. Incarcerated in lieu of $13,000 bond.

—John E. Okeeke, 22, and Seidie N. Walton, 21, both of Lumberton, Texas, arrested at 1:36 a.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace intoxicated. Both released after posting $281 bonds each.

—Jonathan J. Lindsey, 27, of Gibson, arrested at 12:08 p.m. Saturday for failure to appear on a charge of loud music. Released on $390 bond.

—Kane R. Thomas, 23, of New Iberia arrested at 10 p.m. Sunday for hit and run driving, no insurance and open container law violation. Incarcerated in lieu of $1,127 bond.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office made the following arrests over the weekend.

—Richard Landry, 60, of La. 182., Morgan City, arrested Friday at 11:25 a.m. on a warrant for probation violation. Incarcerated in the parish jail with no bond yet set.

—Carmel Triggs, 30, of Tall Timber Street, Patterson, arrested Saturday at 8:50 a.m. on a warrant for failure to appear for criminal neglect of family. Booked into the parish jail with a $500 bond.

—Travis Williams, 24, of Gabriel Street, Patterson, arrested Sunday at 5:58 a.m. for no insurance and expired registration. Arrest was made after investigation after Williams struck a deer on Hwy. 317. Arrested and issued a summons to appear in court on Aug. 17.

—Layne Aucoin, 18, of Hwy. 662, Bayou Boeuf, arrested Sunday at 11:12 a.m. on two warrants for probation violation. Booked into the parish jail with a $20,000 bond.

—Patricia Green, 46, of Oak Street, Morgan City, arrested Sunday at 2:40 p.m. for theft by shoplifting and entry after being forbidden. She was observed concealing $53.70 in merchandise in her purse at Wal-mart in Bayou Vista. During investigation it was also learned that she had been previously banned from the store. Placed under arrest and booked into the parish jail with a $1,500 bond.

—Eliza P. Williams, 22, of Louisiana Street, Morgan City, arrested Sunday at 6:17 p.m. on two warrants for failure to appear for drug court status conference. Booked into the parish jail with a $200,000 bond.

The Patterson Police Department made one arrest over the weekend.

—Shantell Gant, 42, of Cleveland Street, Patterson, arrested Sunday at 11:30 a.m. on disturbing the peace intoxicated and resisting arrest by failure to comply. Still incarcerated; no bond information was available at press time.
