MARKSVILLE –A city councilman who apparently tried to throw his political weight around faces charges.

Elliot Jordan, 41, of 440 Green St., Marksville, was charged with public intimidation, resisting an officer, cruelty to animals and released on a $2,500 bond after the sheriff investigated a report of Jordan neglecting his horses.

"We received a call from a concerned citizen," he said. "We had checked on the horses during a previous complaint. When a deputy went back for another complaint received May 18, he saw the horses were worse. The horses were suffering from malnutrition."

The horses are on a lot on Schexsnyder Road in the Large area.

Anderson said the case is still under investigation, and the horses were now under the care of a veterinarian.

Jordon is serving his second term on the council.
