MORGAN CITY — City council redistricting concerns were not the only issues discussed at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

Morgan City chief financial officer Deborah Garber presented monthly financial statements, showing that actual total revenues exceed the budget by $191,500, though both revenues and expenditures in the utility funds were under budget, with an unfavorable variance of $17,600.

“Sales taxes are running slightly under budget,” Mayor Tim Matte said.

Also, in other business, the council voted to purchase additional zoning code development services from Kendig Keast Collaborative for $21,450.

“They’re somewhat outdated,” Mayor Tim Matte said of the current code. “I guess the best example would be that a watch-repair shop might be listed, and we don’t have very many watch or clock repair shops, but a store that sold cell phones is not listed because they didn’t exist at the time.

“Part of this proposal would be going through that list, consolidating them, and better describing them to today’s circumstances,” Matte said.

In other business:

—The council approved a finance committee recommendation (from last week’s finance committee meeting) to allocate $150,000 from the capital additions and contingencies fund to the utilities department for repair of transformers for $60,000, the purchase of two new breakers for $70,000, and $20,000 in contingency money.

—Lee Delaune of the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival and Fair Association spoke to request approval of a 50/50 raffle on Sept. 3 with $1 tickets. The council voted unanimously to approve it.

—Jaunita Lagarde and Juan Day were reappointed to the Main Street committee.

—The council voted to adopt the adjusted millage rates.

—The Daily Review was selected as the official journal of the city, with a purchase of legal publications for the city at a cost of $3 per column-inch.

—Carl Butler of the Patterson Community Fair invited the community to the fair in Patterson on June 21-24. “We’re going to have arts and crafts. We’re going to have over 200 motor bike riders. We’ll be playing softball out there,” Butler said.
