Gloria Roy, BVGC president, announced awards that were won by the club.
In LGCF noncompetitive awards, BVGC received Garden Club Achievement-Gold Seal with ribbon, Horticulture Honor Roll with Gold Seal, and Arbor Day Certificate of Merit. In the competitive awards category, BVGC was presented with: Yearbook — LGCF first place plus $10 and DSR second place; and Publicity Press Book — LGCF second place.
BVGC expressed thanks to The Daily Review for assisting the club in accomplishing its publicity goal.
Roy presented perfect attendance certificates to members Kim Alcina, Sandra Blanco, Donna Bucci, Jean Chauvin, Roy, Janice Verret and Marge Williams.
Horticulture Chairman Pam Breaux provided members with native Louisiana irises to propagate for conservation. According to Breaux, the irises are an excellent choice for the landscape in boggy areas and rain gardens.
Club members were treated to a meal by hostesses Blanco, Ann Breaux and Roy.
Table centerpieces, designed by Blanco, were daisy bouquets set in pastel containers arranged with shimmering ribbon. Blanco also created the floral design “Eighteen Years of Fun” which included daisies, sago palm fronds and agapanthus.
Door prize winners were Bucci, Chauvin, and Jo Ann Ryan.
National Garden Week will be observed June 3-9.
The next BVGC meeting will be Sept. 10 at the Bayou Vista Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. New members are always welcome.
