BATON ROUGE -- The Natural Resources Conservation Service will spend about has about $1 million on four Louisiana watershed projects to improve water quality.

The Conservation Service is joining with the state Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the state Department of Environmental Quality to help leverage money and efforts on the water-quality projects.

Sarah Haymaker, the Conservation Service’s acting state conservationist, says in this case the agencies chose relatively small areas to focus on so progress can be more measurable.

The four focus areas for the grant are Lake Louis Watershed, in Catahoula Parish; Indian Bayou Watershed, Acadia, Lafayette and Vermilion parishes; and the East Fork Big Creek Watershed and Big Creek Watershed, both in Tangipahoa Parish.
