WHISKEY BAY – Law enforcement officers rushed to the Whiskey Bay area again Wednesday night after sonar equipment appeared to detect something that might be a potential clue in the disappearance of ULL coed Mickey Shunick.

However, what authorities thought may be a clue turned out to be a log after divers scoured the area.

At approximately 8 p.m., a large convoy of crime lab trucks and police cars cordoned off the area as their search began, causing news crews to rush to the scene. However, the search yielded no new clues.

The Shunick case has caused a massive display of public support drawing over 2,000 volunteers and posted reward money.

Police have asked that the volunteer effort be scaled down since Shunick’s bicycle was found submerged in waters of the Atchafalaya River Basin last Sunday.

Shunick disappeared on May 19, last seen pedaling her bicycle in Lafayette toward her home about 2 a.m.
