The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office reports an “apparent suicide” Thursday in a hotel in Bayou Vista.

Elberia Aucoin had been reported missing from Iberia Parish and was found dead Thursday at 12:52 p.m. Her body was turned over to the parish coroner’s office.

The SMSO also made the following arrests overnight, according to Sheriff Mark Hebert:

—Cesar Arevalo, 44, of Chestnut Drive, Morgan City, was arrested in Amelia at 6:09 p.m. Thursday for simple battery. He is alleged to have struck the complainant in the face after she went to retrieve her telephone. Released after posting $500 bond.

—Jobeth Denney, 26, of Venus Street, Bayou Vista, and a female juvenile, 15, of Morgan City, were arrested at 6:35 p.m. Thursday for simple battery. Denney was booked into the parish jail with a $500 bond, and the juvenile was released to guardian.

—Morgan Bernard, 24, and Jared Jones, 25, both of Southeast Boulevard, Bayou Vista, were arrested at 4:07 p.m. Thursday for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Officers patrolling the Bayou Vista area conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to use signal. After receiving consent to search the vehicle, both were arrested and issued summonses to appear in court.

The Berwick Police Department reported one arrest overnight, according to Chief James Richard:

—Gajan Reed, 26, Lee Charles Street, Franklin, was arrested at Sleep Inn Suites at 10:29 a.m. Thursday and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. She remains incarcerated awaiting bond.

Morgan City Police Chief Marc Folse reported two arrests on traffic warrants Thursday:

—Sylvester D. Washington, 34, of Napoleonville at 6:05 p.m. after a traffic stop on La. 70 for Assumption Parish warrants. He was transferred to their custody this morning.

—Dennis J. Mitchell, 23, of Bowman Street in Morgan City at 11:54 p.m. for suspended driver’s license, no insurance, switched license plate and no registration as well as traffic warrants for Terrebonne Parish. He remained incarcerated this morning in lieu of an $842 MCPD bond as well as awaiting transfer to Terrebonne Parish.

The below arrest was erroneously reported by the Morgan City Police Department as “Candice Shivers” yesterday.

Candice Businelle, 24, of Shivers Street, Patterson, was arrested at 11:28 a.m. Wednesday for driving while intoxicated, careless operation, seat belt violation, and failure to report vehicle crash.
