The Morgan City 10U All-Stars couldn’t hold off the Kenner All-Stars, who rallied for an 18-17 win on Thursday in the opening round of the Babe Ruth Louisiana State Softball Tournament in St. Francisville.

While Morgan City had a 13-5 lead after three innings, Morgan City coach Charlie Solar said walks issued to Kenner hurt his squad and enabled them to come back.

Heading into the sixth inning, the final one of play, the game was tied at 13. While Morgan City scored four in the frame for a 17-13 lead, Kenner responded with five in the bottom of the inning for the win.

Despite the loss, Terre’Yan Johnson had a huge game for Morgan City with a solo inside-the-park home run, a single and a double. Other Morgan City hitters included Ava Nicar, three singles; Nia Lightfoot, a single and a double; Carli Solar, a double; and Madalyn Hebert, Katie Brooks and Courtney Welsh, each with a single.

Brooks pitched the first three innings for Morgan City, while Solar and Abby Sanford both combined for the final three innings.

With the loss, Morgan City falls to the elimination bracket where it will play at 2 p.m. against the loser of this morning’s game between Kentwood and Denham Springs.

In other first round action on Thursday, Patterson fell to Plaquemine. No score was available.

Patterson also will be fighting to keep its postseason alive when it plays today at 4 p.m.
