Through its first two games, the Morgan City 9-year-old All-Stars held the upper hand against its competition with dominating wins.

Then, however, the tables turned.

After defeating Thibodaux, 11-1 in its tournament opener, Morgan City fell twice to Thibodaux — once on Sunday and again on Monday night in the 9-year-old District 3 Championship as the Thibodaux squad won the tournament with a 14-3 victory against Morgan City.

In Monday’s loss at Peltier Park in Thibodaux, Matthew Mire led Morgan City with a 2-for-2 performance with a double, while Ethan Blanco also finished 2-for-2. Other Morgan City hitters included Leroy Byers, 1-for-1 with an RBI; and Jackson Butler and Gunnar Theriot, each 1-for-2.

Thibodaux forced Monday night’s if-necessary game for the championship after it handed Morgan City its first loss of the tournament, 21-7.

In the loss, Austin Reynolds led Morgan City with a 1-for-3 performance with a triple, while Byers finished 1-for-2 with an RBI. Other Morgan City hitters included Alex Boudreaux and Hugh Hamer, each 1-for-2; and Mire, Luke Freia and Zachary Bennett, all 1-for-3.

On Saturday, Morgan City defeated Franklin, 20-7.

Davidyione Bias led Morgan City with a 2-for-3 performance with a home run, while Kolin Crappell finished 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Other Morgan City hitters included Reynolds, 1-for-3, two RBIs; Bennett, 1-for-3, an RBI; Butler, 2-for-3; Byers and Hamer, each 1-for-2; and Mire and Freia, each 1-for-3.

In its tournament opener on Thursday, Morgan City routed Thibodaux, 11-1.

Freia led Morgan City with a 2-for-2 performance with a home run and three RBIs, while Mire finished 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Theriot added a 1-for-2 day with an RBI, while Reynolds finished 1-for-3.
