C.A. “Gus” Lipari, an educator and longtime civil servant in Patterson, died this morning after an illness.

Lipari began his career with the St. Mary Parish School System in 1964 as a sixth-grade teacher at Bayou Vista Elementary School. However, it was the next year that he would find his home at Patterson High School. From 1965 until his retirement in 1997, Lipari served as the school’s guidance counselor.

Lipari, a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson, also served numerous terms in city government.

From 1978 to 1986, he served as a town alderman. Then, from 1986 until 1996, Lipari was the city’s mayor.

After a hiatus from politics, Lipari returned as a councilman in 1998, where he served until 2006.

Ibert’s Mortuary in Patterson will be in charge of arrangements.
