Qualifying for local elections occurs in two weeks.

Qualifying fees for mayor and councilmen for the City of Morgan City and for the special council election in Patterson are $75 for those with no party affiliation, $150 for Democrats, and $131.25 for Republicans, according to Cliff Dressel, Clerk of Court for St. Mary Parish.

Morgan City is holding its regular council elections this year. Patterson is holding a special election to replace Claire Sawyer, who died earlier this year.

Qualifying will take place Aug. 15-17 at the clerk’s office on the second floor of the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin.

The primary will occur Nov. 6, and the general election will occur Dec. 8.

State law requires that the qualifying must be paid in cash, certified check, cashier’s check or money order. Personal checks cannot be accepted.
