State Police said Brandon Ezell, 24, of Baton Rouge was not wearing a seat belt when the truck left I-10 west near Siegen Lane about 3 a.m., hit an embankment and rolled over.
The driver, Jonathan Tillman, 38, of Plaquemine and a front seat passenger, Anquenett Taplin, 42, of Baton Rouge, were restrained and received minor injuries, troopers said.
Another passenger, Everett Moncrieffe, 36, of Baton Rouge, listed as owner of the vehicle, left the scene, troopers said.
Tests showed Tillman had been drinking but was below the legal limit at the time time of test, troopers said.
He was charged with negligent homicide, negligent injuring and careless operation.
