LA-Vets-Fest will be an annual event held in St. Francisville at the West Feliciana Parish Sports Park on Veterans Day weekend. This year’s event will be held Nov. 9-10.
Scheduled events include:
—Friday: Chicken and sausage gumbo cook-off with music provided by the Josh Garrett Band and the Waylon Thibodeaux Band.
—Saturday: Barbecue chicken, brisket, pulled pork, and chicken/sausage/pork jambalaya cook-offs, and desserts will be sold, with entertainment provided by the West Feliciana Parish High School Band, the Alaina Richard Band and the Angola Band. Additional entertainment provided by Jazzercise and Kim’s Institute of Self Defense.
Water, soft drinks and beer will be sold.
Louisiana restaurateurs and local dignitaries will be available as food judges.
Silent and live auctions will be conducted with items such as barbecue pits, a Remington 270 rifle, LSU & Saints paddles, a sun dial, art work, plants and more.
An AR-15, M4 rifle will be raffled.
Army equipment, tank, helicopter and a personnel carrier will be brought in along with soldiers to present the equipment and offer photo opportunities.
Several bikers’ clubs consisting of veterans have been invited as well as car clubs.
Children’s activities include bounce houses and games.
La-Vets-Fest T-shirts and limited numbered poster painting prints will be sold.
Booths will be set up for veterans seeking employment assistance and West Feliciana Parish Tourism activities.
The Louisiana Veterans Foundation is a Louisiana non-profit corporation with a 501(c)(3) status declaration with the Internal Revenue Service. The Foundation’s goal is to assist veterans, their families and the families of active duty military personnel who reside in the state and have a qualified need that cannot be met through their own resources or other community resources. While assistance is typically for financial need, some services are targeted toward family members, for example, scholarships toward college education. The Foundation secures funds through endowments, corporate sponsorships and charitable events.
