Franklin’s waste collection service, Progressive Waste Solutions, left emptied containers near the lane of traffic along parts of Main Street this morning. According to Councilman Chuck Autin, the truck’s driver was “blowing his horn for someone to come out” of businesses — most of which were not open prior to 8 a.m. — to move containers from the sidewalk to the truck for dumping. Autin helped move containers for several businesses and said he suggested the route be picked up earlier in the morning, before patrons begin parking on Main Street. Autin has been a vocal critic of the company’s handling of waste pickup, pointing to overturned cans after emptying, foul-smelling liquid dripping from trucks and damage to the city’s curbs, including the remaining red brick ones. Progressive has promised a new truck for the Franklin area and enhanced measures to prevent leakage and smell. The company did make repairs to damages.
