I am Bart L. Mancuso and I am announcing my candidacy for mayor of Morgan City. I am running for mayor because I want to continue to contribute to the betterment of our community.
I was born in Morgan City and I am the son of the late Vincent and Faith Mancuso. I am married to Dr. Monica Mancuso, an instructional supervisor for the St. Mary Parish School Board. Our children and grandchildren are Dr. Frances Chauvin who is married to Dr. Brent Chauvin and grandchildren Faith, Harrison, and Lucy; Mrs. Mary White who is married to Mr. Brett White and grandchildren Evan, Grant, and Brennan; Mr. Andrew Mancuso who is married to Mrs. Christina Tamporello Mancuso and grandchildren Thomas, Emma and Caroline; and Dr. Luke Mancuso.
I graduated from Morgan City High School in 1970 and Louisiana State University in 1974. Soon after my graduation from LSU, I was hired by Dr. C.R. Brownell and began a career with the city of Morgan City. For the past 37 years, I have served as the director of Recreation and Culture for the city. In this job I had the responsibility for recreation programs, Lake End Park, the Municipal Auditorium, and promoting tourism. The duties also included the responsibility of budgeting and accounting for the named departments. I retired in February of 2012. I presently serve as chairman of the city’s Hospitalization Insurance Committee in my retirement.
Highlights of my city career include designing and supervising the Everett Street Recreation Building construction; implementing improvements at Lake End Park, the Complex Park, Cypress Park, and the Municipal Auditorium; guiding Lake End Park into a revenue-generating facility; and planning and supervising construction of playgrounds and improvements at all ball fields. I have first-hand working knowledge of multiple departments in the city as I have remained and worked in an emergency capacity during hurricane evacuations impacting the city over the last 37 years.
I decided to offer my candidacy to continue to contribute to a place that remains a great community to live and raise a family. My goal is to address areas of need ensuring that Morgan City remains an up-and-coming 21st century city with all current technology, infrastructure, and resources needed for our citizens.
My candidacy platform is focused on economic development, housing, municipal infrastructure, FEMA levee elevation resolution, quality police and fire departments, and quality of life issues. With your support, we can make the necessary changes to keep Morgan citians equipped with the best municipal services to drive a robust economy and maintain a high quality of life to ensure that all citizens are proud to call Morgan City home.
