With heartfelt sincerity for the future of Morgan City and its citizens, I am once again announcing my candidacy for a seat on the City Council.
My name is Timmy T. Hymel, and I am a proud native and lifelong resident of Morgan City. My parents are Floyd and Shirley Hymel, also lifelong residents of Morgan City. I am married to Debra Matte Hymel, daughter of Joseph Matte and the late Gloria Matte. Debra is a kindergarten teacher at Wyandotte Elementary school. My wife and I have three children: Ryan, 25, Morgan, 19, and Dylan, 17.
I am a 1978 graduate of Morgan City High School. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication arts (business option) from Nicholls State University in 1982. I obtained my certification in high school mathematics in 1990, and I graduated with a master’s degree of education in 2003.
I have been employed by the St. Mary Parish School Board for the past 26 years. Twenty of those years were spent in the classroom at Morgan City High School teaching algebra, geometry, and financial math. During my entire career, I also served in a coaching capacity, coaching baseball, assisting with football for the school, and volunteering to coach recreational programs in the community. For the last six years, I have served in an administrative role as assistant principal at Morgan City High School.
The last four years as a city councilman have been a great learning experience. During my first term, I have gained valuable insight as to how the city operates, and I will use this experience to work closely with the new mayor and administration.
Throughout my term as city councilman, our city has been faced with many challenges. We have made great strides in rebuilding the infrastructure of our city from the “underground” up, and we have made several decisions that will positively affect the future of Morgan City.
We have seen business growth over the past four years and we will continue to fight for residential growth. It is imperative that this city continue to grow in order to motivate our youth to become active members and residents of our area. I have worked with young adults throughout my career, and I realize that they are the key to our city’s survival.
As your councilman, I pledge to make decisions that are in the best interest of the citizens in our great community. I have been accessible to all citizens of Morgan City, inside and outside of District 1, and I am looking forward to working closely with the other leaders of our city to accomplish the city’s goals with dignity and honesty. I have the time, the energy, and the dedication to help our city as it continues to prosper.
If you would like to contact me for any reason, I may be reached at 985-385-5504 (home) or 985-312-4698 (cell). I hope that you consider re-electing me for the District 1 seat on the Morgan City Council to serve you. Please vote number “57” on Nov. 6.
Thank you for your consideration.
