Morgan City will look to make it two in a row this week when the squad hosts Sarah Reed at Tiger Stadium Friday.

Morgan City (1-0) enters the game coming off a 28-0 victory against Berwick in both teams’ opener last week.

Sarah Reed (0-1) also played its first game of the season in week 2 after its week 1 matchup against Fountainbleau was cancelled, according to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. In week 2, Sarah Reed fell 62-6.

Despite the lopsided score, Morgan City head coach Brandon Nowlin said the New Orleans area school does have speed and a few playmakers.

“Offensively, they want to kind of spread you out so they can run the ball,” Nowlin said, adding that Sarah Reed also employs some option football.

On defense, he said Sarah Reed lines up in a 3-4 defense or a 3-3 stack while using their speed to create havoc for opposing offenses.

“They have a lot of good athletes, a lot of team speed,” Nowlin said. “They don’t have a ton of players, but the ones they do have play hard.”

Nowlin said that on defense, his squad would have to be sound, while on offense they would have to execute, something he said they didn’t do at times on offense in their week 2 matchup against Berwick.

Nowlin said his squad would have to make better use of turnovers its defense forces, while the squad also recorded too many penalties against Berwick.

While Nowlin said he was happy with much of his squad’s special teams’ play, he said they must improve on their kicking game as well as some things on kickoff coverage.

“As a whole, I thought we played well last week and just got to keep on improving,” he said.
