Drake Businelle and Collin Broussard combined to lead the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 36-22 victory over Pine Prairie Friday at McCloskey Field.

Hanson (1-2) earned its first win of the season after jumping outfront by a 28-0 score late in the second quarter.

Businelle, who tallied 223 yards on the night, gave the Tigers a 6-0 lead at the 9:37 mark of the first quarter. Businelle found daylight on a 23 yard scoring jaunt to hand the Tigers a 6-0 advantage early in the first quarter.

Broussard took his turn at scoring as he plowed one-yard for a touchdown with the clock blinking 9:34 in the second period as the Tigers forged ahead by a 12-0 margin. Businelle added the two-point conversion, giving HMS a 14-0 cushion.

Businelle soon made his presence felt with a sensational 85-yard punt return where he weaved his way through several arm tacklers on his way to the long TD run. Broussard tacked on the two-point conversion and HMS sprinted out front by a 22-0 lead with 5:15 showing on the clock in the second quarter.

Broussard, who had 19 carries for 220 yards on the night, raced 40 yards for a score to hand the Tigers a 28-0 cushion with 1:59 remaining before halftime.

Pine Prairie managed to trim Hanson’s lead to 28-14 with touchdowns in the second and third quarters before the Tigers struck for eight more points on the combination of Broussard and Businelle.

With 2:17 left in the contest, Broussard scored on a two-yard run prior to Businelle adding the two-point conversion as Hanson Memorial extended its lead to 36-14.

Pine Prairie (0-3) added its final score with 2:01 remaining before bowing to the HMS Tigers by a final score of 36-22.

Businelle led the Tigers in rushing with 25 carries for 223 yards and two touchdowns, including an 85-yard punt return. Broussard finished with 220 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns.

Beau Barrilleaux completed one pass for 4 yards with Payton Kellebrew making the catch.

The Hanson Tigers will return to action Thursday on the road at the Delcambre Panthers at 7 p.m.
