World championship boat racing will hit Morgan City this weekend when the Deep South Racing Association’s ¼-Mile Outboard Drag Boat Racing championship competition begins Friday at Russo’s Boat Landing.

Action will consist of qualifying in four classes Friday as well as qualifying in the other four Saturday.

On Sunday, championships will be held in the eight classes.

Local race director Marvin Catrett said that more than 100 boats are expected at the event, the fourth time DSRA has come to Morgan City.

This year’s event is extra special because after trying to secure the world championships in recent years, Morgan City achieved the feat for this year.

Catrett said it appears that it will remain here in future years.

Admission to this weekend’s event is $10 per person and $10 per ice chest.

Racing will be held each day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Anytime Band will perform Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Look for more information on the race in Thursday’s paper.
