Patterson Garden Club held its first meeting of the 2012-13 year Sept. 18 at the home of Iris and Buddy Roy. Hostesses were Daisy Leblanc and Iris Roy. The group was treated to a meal of spaghetti and meatballs, Caesar salad, French bread and homemade cake.

Members’ anxiety of getting reacquainted was quickly soothed as they greeted guests and prospective members. Prospective members are Regina Guidry, Mary Richoux and Kayla Istre. Guests were Hannah Boudreaux and Annel Kelley.

After dinner, President Sandra Marshall called the meeting to order. First on the agenda was to distribute the new yearbooks and outline the year’s activities and programs. There was a discussion about several members’ plan to attend the Oct. 4 district meeting in New Iberia.

Marshall asked the club to consider a donation to Evelyn Ortiz and the adaptive physical education classes at Patterson High School and Patterson Junior High for their fall and spring vegetable gardens. The donation was approved.

Leblanc and Evelyn Estay, members of the Yard of the Month Committee, announced winners for August and September. August winners were the Patterson library, and Terry and Sandra Daigle. September winners were James, Helga and Scott Carpenter.

At the conclusion of the meeting members held a plant exchange. A half-and-half drawing was held and won by Istre.

Next month’s meeting will be held on Oct. 16. Hostesses will be Estay and Sandra Underwood.
