A Patterson man was arrested for a leash law violation after his dog reportedly bit a child riding a bike Monday.

Richard Brinlee, 58, of Trina Street in Patterson was arrested at 4:48 p.m. at his home, Sheriff Mark Hebert said.

The responding deputy was told the dog came out of the owner’s yard and bit the 12-year-old boy on the leg while he was riding his bike, Hebert said.

The boy was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City for treatment of two puncture wounds. Brinlee was released on a summons to appear in court Jan. 16, 2013.

A deputy at the school responded to a report of a female student attempting to fight with another student. While escorting the juvenile from the classroom, she struck the deputy. The juvenile was released to a guardian.

—Cody Thibodeaux, 22, Fourth Street, Berwick, at 3:02 p.m. at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville for simple criminal damage to property. A deputy at the jail responded to a fire alarm. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Thibodeaux, already an inmate at the jail, used a sheet to break the sprinkler in his cell triggering the alarm, the report stated. Thibodeaux remains jailed with no bail set.

—Juvenile male, 15, at 8:04 p.m. at the Bayou Vista Walmart for theft. A deputy learned from store security that the teenager was seen on video surveillance opening a package of headphones valued at $19.99. St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Division agents patrolling the Bayou Vista area observed a vehicle fail to signal a turn. When agents conducted a traffic stop, the driver, identified as Stansbury, fled on foot. Agents pursued Stansbury but lost sight of him. A bag of marijuana was located in the area where Stansbury fled, Hebert said.

Agents saw a vehicle continually driving around that same area, so a second traffic stop was made. The driver was identified as Anthony Watts. Three children were in the vehicle, none of which were properly restrained, the report stated.. Agents saw Stansbury attempting to hide on the floorboard under the legs of the minors in the vehicle, the sheriff said.

The Patterson man charged in dog-bitting incident happened 5 houses down from where I live. He always lets his Two dogs run around and the dog that attacked is a Blue Healer. This Same dog has bitten the younger brother and dog of the recently attacked 12 year old boy. This man needs to be taught a harsh lesson. If it was my child the dog would be dead! Just because we live down a private road doesn't mean that were exempt from the leash laws. I have a German Shepard and a Wolf/Husky and they are not allowed to run the neighborhood, we walk them on leashes!!
