Berwick knocks off HMS Tigers

BERWICK _ The Berwick Panthers scored 17 points in the second quarter on two touchdowns and a field goal to post a 32-14 non-district win over the Hanson Memorial Tigers here Thursday at Geisler Stadium.

Berwick erupted for the 17 points after the game was knotted at 8-8 early in the second stanza.

Berwick’s Bobby Boudreaux, who finished with 16 carries for 136 yards and two touchdowns, opened the scoring with an 18-yard run in the first quarter with 9:05 showing on the clock. Brooks Richard tacked on the two-point conversion, giving the Panthers an 8-0 lead. Boudreaux also returned the second half kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown to help propel the Panthers.

Hanson’s Royce Norton and Jacob Steward combined to help the Tigers tie the game at 8-8 early in the second quarter. Hanson’s Collin Broussard added a touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 51-yard run to cap the scoring for the Tigers.

After Boudreaux handed the Panthers an 8-0 lead, Norton hit pay dirt from five yards out before Steward caught a pass from Drake Rodriguez on the two-point conversion, tying the game at 8-all with 11:29 showing on the clock.

Sandwiched in between Boudreaux’s touchdowns were scored by Raheem Colar, Luis Hernandez along with a 23-yard field goal by Brooks Richard.

Berwick scored on a 2-yard run by Raheem Colar along with a 5-yard run by Luis Hernandez and a 23-yard field goal by Richard to take a 25-8 halftime cushion.

Boudreaux returned the second half kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown, sending the Panthers ahead by a 32-8 margin.

Hanson’s leading rusher Collin Broussard rambled 51 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Broussard finished the night as the top runner for the game with 18 carries for 171 yards and one touchdown. Norton had six carries for 39 yards and one score while Beau LeBlanc picked up 16 yards and Rodriguez had three carries for 19 yards.

Norton completed one pass for 33 yards to Beau LeBlanc to lead the Tigers.

Hanson Memorial (2-5, 0-1) will play host to Ascension Catholic next Friday in District 8-A action.
