Comics artist

MONROE – Services for legendary comics artist Marcus Swayze are pending. He died Oct. 14 at age 99.

He drew the Captain Marvel character for Fawcett Publications for a period and also drew other characters in the golden age of comics, including The Phantom Eagle and Flyin’ Jenny.

Arrangements are by Mulhearn.

Methodist Men official

BATON ROUGE – Services are Monday for former lay Methodist official Ofney Ellis. He died Oct. 11 at age 93.

He was a decorated Army Air Corps veteran of the European Theater of World War II. He helped organize and was a former president of the Louisiana Conference United Methodist Men.

Survivors include two sons.

Arrangements are by Greenoaks.

Former LSU football player, farmer, rancher

PORT ALLEN – Services for cane farmer, cattleman and former LSU football player Robert Wilkinson, Sr. are Monday. He died Oct. 10 at age 69.

HIs family agricultural operation was Poplar Grove Plantation. He was a charter member of the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, a successful real estate developer and deputy director of the state’s Atchafalaya Basin Program.

Survivors include his wife Nancy, a son and two daughters.
