BERWICK — The Saints and Colts were victorious in their games in Atchafalaya Youth Football League action Saturday at Geisler Stadium.
The Saints defeated the Chiefs, 38-30, while the Colts got past the Vikings, 7-0.
In the Saints’ win, Dede Gant had a huge game as he rushed for 158 yards and four touchdowns.
Gant’s touchdowns were from 56 yards, 57 yards, 21 yards and four yards.
Other offensive standouts for the Saints included Jean Pat Dupuy, 67 yards rushing, including a 59-yard touchdown and a point-after attempt; Morriquise Charles, 69 yards rushing and a point-after attempt; and Logan Tingle, 37 yards rushing, including a 14-yard touchdown run. Tingle also completed a 7-yard pass to Ethan Nguyen.
Defensively, Leo Williams, Brooks Thomas, Hunter Daigle, Taylor Blanchard and Dupuy turned in solid efforts for the Saints.
For the Chiefs, Colin Louviere rushed for 162 yards, including 62- and 46-yard touchdown runs, while Josh Jones rushed for 49 yards, including a 21-yard score.
Other offensive and special teams’ standouts for the Chiefs included Ethan Scully, who had a 2-yard touchdown run; Cade Booty, four points on two point-after attempts; Peter Grogan, a 24-yard kickoff return and Ronnie Hatcher, a 30-yard kickoff return. Trey Derouen also kicked a two-point point-after attempt.
On defense, Kim Crappell, Louviere (recovered an onside kickoff), Derouen, Amarea Christopher and Ethan Boagni all turned in solid efforts for the Chiefs.
In the Colts’ win, Drexel Boutte scored the game’s lone touchdown on a 1-yard run and also converted the point-after attempt. He finished the game with 42 yards rushing.
Reginald Talver also rushed for 47 yards in the win.
Among the Colts’ defenders providing solid defense were Darrius Lucas, Don Quan Tillman and Darrius Johnson, who recovered a fumble.
For the Vikings, solid defense was provided by Seth Giroir, Jake Srigley, Adam Askew and Grayson Wells.
